“MRP” is an abbreviation for Machine Readable Passport. Typically, a machine-readable passport is issued to Pakistani citizens.

Documents Required

The following are the documents that are required for MRP:

  • If you are over the age of 18, bring your Computerized National Identity Card or a Registration Certificate for Children (Form B) with two photocopies.
  • You must pay a bank challan fee based on the category of your passport.
  • A passport is valid for 5 years for children under the age of 15.
  • If you want to renew your passport, you must also have an old passport.
  • When visiting the Regional Passport Office, bring your Bank Challan Receipt with you.
  • If you work for the government, you must have a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Passport Validity:

The passports issued by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports are valid for 5 to 10 years. You must pay the fee based on the validity period of your passport.

Children’s passports have a 5-year validity period. It cannot be extended for another ten years. Another thing to keep in mind is that once a passport with a 5-year validity period is issued, it cannot be changed or extended to a 10-year validity period.

Process Stages:

After paying the bank challan fee and submitting all required documents, you must visit the Regional Passport Office to obtain your Machine Readable Passport. The original bank challan must be brought with you when visiting the Regional Passport Office.

The fee challan must be paid at one of the National Bank’s branches.

The steps you must take at the Regional Passport Office are briefly described below:

  • You must go to the Customer Service Counter.
  • They will give you a token with the number of your turn written on it.
  • When your turn comes, you will go through the photography capture process.
  • Following that, biometric fingerprints will be captured.
  • All biodata will be entered into the NADRA system.

First and foremost, you must go to the Passport Office’s customer service counter. The receptionist at the counter will provide detailed instructions on how to apply for a passport. If you have all of the necessary documents, you can obtain tokens from the token counter to proceed with the process.

Capturing Picture:

After that, you must go to the token counter, where your passport photo will be taken. Then, if you are under the age of 18, you must present your original CNIC or “Form B.”

Biometric:

For the next step, you must go to the NADRA office in Pakistan and visit the biometric counter, where your fingerprints will be captured for the record. They will then request your biodata, which includes your name, address, phone number, academic credentials, and so on.

Applicants can apply for a passport in two ways: “Normal” or “Urgent.” The fee varies depending on the category you select.

Normal Passport:

A standard passport is issued in 10 days. However, depending on the location of the Regional Passport office, it may take longer. Shipping could take some time.

Urgent Passport:

An urgent passport is usually issued within 5 days, but it may take 2 or 3 extra days due to issues.
